National Future Day 2023

For the third time already, xappido ag took part in National Future Day. We were able to welcome a total of six school students to our office.

Demand for National Future Day at xappido was so high this year that, instead of the two girls we had planned for, we ended up welcoming six school students — and rather than half a day, we promptly extended the programme to a full one.

Two places became six

It was the third time xappido ag had taken part in National Future Day. Originally, as in the previous year, we intended to have two girls join us for half a day on the special project “Mädchen-Informatik-Los!”. Considerably more signed up, and so we were able to welcome Smeralda, Elena, Norah, Livia, Kimi and Nino to our office in Oberkirch for a whole day. Lorena and Lea looked after the six of them.

Programming, trying things out, asking questions

The laptops were ready in the meeting room, and the six were able to do plenty of programming themselves. Wherever things got stuck, someone from the team sat down beside them. Much of the work was done in pairs: explaining what you intend to do, and looking together at why the screen is showing something else. That is exactly how it goes for us day to day.

The robots did not stand still for a second

Our robots had no rest that day. Emo stood on the table and was examined at length, and a small learning robot could be steered along lines the students drew themselves. Technology you can touch is the shortest route to the realisation that something really does happen behind every command.

A pizza break at the long table

For lunch there was pizza for everyone. Guests and team sat together at the long table, and between two slices there was room for the questions left over from the programming.
