Oops, the xappido blooper reel!

The xappido team’s first blooper reel, and a look at why speaking about software is harder than writing about it.

This is our first compilation of this kind. What you see in it are not bugs in a piece of software, but slips in speech: sentences that break off, words the wrong way round, laughter at exactly the point where the punchline should have been.

A technical term in your head is not yet a word on your tongue

Anyone who develops software works all day with terms that come completely naturally in writing. In front of a camera, that is a different task. A text can be revised three times; a spoken sentence happens in one go and has to be correct, comprehensible and lively all at once. That is precisely where the lapses you see here come from. Not because someone does not know the subject, but because at that moment they are translating it, from the language of development into the language of the people listening.

Why we do not cut it out

You can remove these moments and show a polished video. We find the other version more interesting: anyone who wants to see who they are working with learns more from two seconds of stumbling than from two minutes of flawless delivery. And it is the more honest account of our work: the first attempt is rarely the finished one — no more in front of a camera than in a project.

Enjoy our first blooper reel. Here’s to a good 2022!
